Copthorne vs Keymer & Hassocks
Mowatt Cup

K & H had to work hard for their 1-0 win over Copthorne in the Mowatt Cup as the wind made conditions very tricky for both sides

They had to play into it in the first half which made goal kicks particularly difficult.Copthorne playing some nice passing football had the first chance early on with a snap shot inside the area but keeper Craig Jackson got down quickly to palm it away. They had most of the possession but their moves often broke down as the wind carried the ball away. When K & H did get forward James Emmens looked a threat and did have a couple of half chances which he failed to convert.

K & H tried to learn from the difficulties Copthorne had encountered in the first half and felt they were coping better after the re-start but failed to really press despite pushing Copthorne back into their own half.Rob Kift tried from a couple of free kick which were on target but the home keeper’s handling was very assured. The breakthrough came when Toby Raftery, who was getting a bit of a battering, found himself free at the far post and managed to get his head to a corner ball-it came back off the post and a defender and he stabbed it home for the winner

Copthorne kept battling to the end but the K & H defence had played well throughout and were not to be breached

MOM went to Captain Ben Watson who had been sick all the night and before the game but still put in a fine display
