Ardingly vs Keymer & Hassocks
Div 2
K & H finally secured 3rd spot in Div 2 with a 4-0 win away at Ardingly-being an evening kick-off the line up was uncertain until they got there but luckily enough players were able to make it on time.
True to recent form K & H were denied possession for large periods of the first half but despite that won a penalty which James Handford drove wide and also took the lead when Dave Edwards hit a deep cross into the box which a defender running towards his own goal headed into the net.Ardingly maintained unceasing pressure forcing a number of corners, their best chance coming when they broke through for a one on one with stand in keeper Robin King but he made a fine save. The main threat was coming down the left side-Nelson Day and Edwards had to work hard to contain it.
The home side might justifiably have felt as the second half commenced that it was only a matter of time before they got back in the game-but Robin King proved the deciding factor as he made a double save from a seemingly harsh penalty decision and proved to be unbeatable thereafter.K & H also at last started to get into the game and Jo Davey finished off a smart move with a chip over the keeper.James Handford having probably his best game ever for K & H notched the second from a Dan Southcombe pass despite seemingly taking an age to get his shot away.Toby Raftery saw another effort come back off the post before Handford won a 50/50 ball which broke to Raftery who flicked it first time to Stuart Thompson for another chip into the net.Ardingly did manage to clip the bar but apart from that the K & H defence looked reasonably comfortable with Fin Fogarty outstanding, his pace helping to nullify their opponents main weapon, whilst Duncan O'Reilly defended well against the aerial threat.Captain for the day Ian Smith was also influential with his constant chat urging the team on.In the middle Matt Thomas kept up his usual tireless workrate.
K & H MOM went to Robin King for his faultless display which ranks as one of the best in the Club's history.
