Ardingly vsKeymer & Hassocks
Junior Cup
K & H progressed to the next round of the Junior Cup with a 3-2 win away to Ardingly.
Defending the slope the K & H defence were under pressure throughout the first half but they held firm although Ardingly were unlucky when they hit a post and also missed a one on one.
K & H took the lead with a fine move Stuart Thompson squaring the ball to Toby Raftery-the keeper got a slight touch which deflected it behind Raftery who in trying to recover fell over but still managed to scoop the ball home.
Ardingly were on the offensive again from the restart but K & H extended their lead when Raftery robbed a defender and pulled the ball back to James Emmens who finished from close range.
Ardingly replied from a corner the ball being back heeled at the near post and then drew level with the goal of the game-a screamer from well outside the box.
The contest could have gone either way but was decided in the last ten minutes-firstly the hosts broke away but a well struck drive came back off the post although keeper Craig Jackson did well to narrow the angle.Jo Davey then similarly broke free at the other end but he managed to stroke the ball past the advancing keeper.
Some fine individual performances notably full backs Dave Edwards and Mike Ridley.
Congratulations to James Emmens for managing to keep his mouth shut for the whole game which has never happened before.
James Handford also set something of a record coming on with 30 minutes left and taking nearly 25 minutes to get his first and last touch of the ball.
K & H MOM however goes to keeper Jackson for a solid display topped off by an incredible one handed reaction save in the second half.
