Keymer & Hassocks vs Ringer AFC
Stubbins Cup
K & H progressed to the second round of the Stubbins Cup with a 5-2 win at home to Ringmer.
Although Ringmer shaded possession in the first half they rarely threatened a commanding defence in which Duncan O'Reilly was outstanding. Conversly the home side's attacks proved incisive.
Jo Davey opened the scoring from close range after the keeper could only parry a fierce Toby Raftery drive - he then followed up with a second following a slightly fortunate rebound and completed his hat-trick converting a fine Wayme Hamilton cross. Gregor Ross then blasted home a free kick bending the ball around the visitors wall.
Ringmer came out fighting in the second half and their pressure was rewarded with a snap shot from outside the area but the game was put beyond doubt when Davey got his fourth outpacing the defence and sidstepping the keeper for another tap in.
Ringmer notched a second late on with a clever lob which gave Craig Jackson no chance but Davey almost had the last word with an effort which rattled the crossbar.
