Keymer & Hassocks vs Lindfield III
Stubbins Cup
Keymer & Hassocks progressed to the next round of the Stubbins Cup with a 2-1 victory over Lindfield after extra time but in truth the result could have gone either way
Lindfield opened brightly and pushed K & H back in the early stages of the first half although as time went on the home side forced a series of corners but these came to nothing with the Lindfield keeper in fine form.
Lindfield went on the offensive after the restart taking advantage of a slip up in midfield which wrong footed the home defence-Jamie Dace outpacing them and finishing perfectly giving the goalie no chance.
K & H struck back quickly when Jo Davey was tripped in the box.Wayne Hamilton duly despatched an unstoppable penalty. It then seemed to be their day when another penalty was awarded for a foul on Stuart Thompson-Hamilton stepped up for a repeat but this time saw his effort rebound off the post to safety.
In the closing stages of normal time Lindfield appeared to be getting on top and it was their turn to force a series of corners but the K & H defence in which their MOM Ian Smith was outstanding refused to yield despite intense pressure.Lindfield's best chance was to come with a shot on the run which cannoned back off the post.
So to extra time and K & H decided on a tactical change pushing defender Troy Raftery up to support the attack-this quickly paid off as Thompson found him with a short pass in the box and he made no mistake driving the ball firmly past the keeper.
Lindfield continued their efforts to rescue the game but K & H held out to the end.
