Keymer & Hassocks vs Barcombe
Div 2
K & H started the new year with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat against a Barcombe side who were totally unrecognisable from the outfit they had played earlier in the season-indeed they were by far the best side encountered to date and on this performance should be playing at a much higher level it would seem. All the more puzzling why they were at the wrong end of the table prior to this game but perhaps the metropolis that is Barcombe offers a much bigger pool of players than the 16 K & H play from
Barcombe were quickly into their stride and put the home defence under pressure who it has to be said looked shaky from the start and it was no surprise that the 3 goals leaked where bad from a defensive point of view although full credit to Barcombe for taking their chances. It could have been worse but for a fine one on one save by keeper Craig Jackson.K & H had hoped winger James Emmens, who had not played for some time, might have a impact in his first game back but he came in for some verbal treatment early on Which badly affected his performance
The game was effectively over at half time but K & H tried to give it a go although they got little change out of a very tight Barcombe defence and were always susceptible to quick counter attacks which Barcombe proved remarkably good at, playing some top notch one touch football
K & H did maybe have some justification in thinking that it was just not their day as Toby Raftery had what looked a good penalty shout turned aside and then saw a shot come back off the post (whereas one of Barcombe’s efforts had gone in off a post),Gregor Ross had a header cleared off the line and Stuart Thomson saw a fierce drive saved one handed by the keeper at point blank range.
Barcombe started to rub K & H’s noses in it a bit towards the end and there was an unfortunate altercation after Stuart Thompson was badly fouled and then Fin Fogarty claimed he had been kicked.Mr Fogarty made his objections clear with a strong verbal address which had some effect as it seemed the visitors become somewhat less arrogant as the game reached its end
