East Court vs Keymer & Hassocks
Div 2
K & H, returning to the pitch where they played their first ever game in 2003, overcame East Court with a solid 5-2 victory
It appears both sides had players missing,K & H had to re-jig their formation with Troy Raftery stepping up into midfield but they were also pleased to welcome back inspirational captain Ben Watson who managed to injure himself walking to the pitch but bravely played on till just after half time
EC applied some early pressure especially from corners as they had a distinct height advantage in attack but keeper Craig Jackson’s handling proved faultless
K & H opened the scoring following a slick passing move which Stuart Thompson finished off from close
Range.MOM Gary Thomas set up the second with a superb cross into the box-an impossible ball for the EC defender to deal with and he turned it into his own net
K & H continued to press and Toby Raftery was unlucky to see a solo effort cannon back off the post and Jo Davey was denied by an excellent save from the EC keeper when clean through
Watson pondered whether to come off at half time and K & H paid the price for keeping him on when EC broke forward and he was unable to get a challenge in so 2-1.Troy Raftery then dropped back into defence and Joe Davey into midfield which unsettled the K & H rhythm for a while but they extended their lead again with a strike from Ian Parsons from outside the box.EC fought back with a quick break which saw the K & H defence outnumbered and unable to prevent a well taken effort.EC then probably then had their best spell as they mounted a series of attacks but started to run out of steam towards the end.Fin Fogarty ran the whole length of the pitch to put one in and Robin KIng completed the tally with a on the turn from the edge of the six yard area
