Newick vs Keymer & Hassocks
Div 2
K & H returned to their bad old ways in a 2-2 draw at Newick
Their record has never been good at this venue-they usually lose and always give away daft goals-not much was to change
Newick started far the better side and fairly tore into K & H who were struggling to live with the pace of the Newick forwards-a number of chances were created before what looked like a mis-hit cross found its way into the top corner.Several more chances came Newick’s way but they could not finish whilst at the other end in one of their rare attacks a remarkable solo run by Jo Davey drew the visitors level and then James Harris playing his 100th game for the Club put the visitors in front from a corner
So amazingly K & H started the second half with a lead when they could easily have conceded four-they also had the slope in their favour. It was only going to be of use if they had the ball of course but they seemed content to let Newick win all the second and most of the first balls which meant a lot of play was in K & H’s half-leading to a well taken Newick equaliser.Furthermore keeper Craig Jackson whose kicking is normally so reliable started to scuff his goal kicks one falling straight to a Newick forward and he had to make a smart save to prevent what seemed a certain goal
K & H only really got into the game in the last 15 minutes with Stuart Thompson making some clever runs into the box-it seemed on one that he must score as he fired in from a yard out but a Newick defender cleared on the line- with his hand the K & H players confidently claimed- but the Referee refused to agree after consulting the Newick lino!
A sickening end for the visitors but in fairness Newick did not deserve to lose this game
