Keymer & Hassocks vs Danehill
Stubbins Cup Quarter Final
K & H progressed to the semis of the Stubbins Cup with a 4-2 extra time win over Danehill-a good footballing side.
The hosts opened brightly and took the lead when the Danehill keeper who had an unfortunate day out miskicked the ball and Toby Raftery stroked it into an empty net.Danehill were soon back in it as some poor defending presented an opportunity that was smartly taken.
Matt Thomas restored the lead from close range-the keeper appeared to get his hands to the ball but the Ref allowed the goal to stand.Again however K & H were shaken as Danehill's lively attack were rewarded with another well taken goal.
Both sides delivered some quality corners-Gregor Ross going closest with a near post header for K & H.
The second half was surprisingly quiet until the last 20 when James Emmens fired in a cross which Toby Raftery hit over from the six yard line and Dave Edwards knocked another good chance wide.
So to extra time-Danehill appeared the slightly more weary of the two teams and K & H sensing this applied pressure which paid off when Dave Edwards bundled the ball home.Toby Raftery finished the game off when he converted an Emmens free kick which had deceived the keeper.
Danehill threw everything forward for the last few minutes but some gritty defending kept them at bay.
Notable performances in defence from Fin Fogarty Troy Raftery and Ben (black eye) Watson with K & H MOM just shaded by Troy for his full length dive to block a shot in the dying seconds.
